Tree Planting + T-shirt Printing

Join Arboretum Detroit and Clear The Air in learning about how trees contribute to our air quality, while we take action as we plant dozens of Giant Sequoias and native understory trees and shrubs. This Filter Forest will be a vegetative buffer along one of the busiest streets in our neighborhood, on the South end of the Arboretum’s network of parks.

We will meet at the Neighborhood Tree Nursery at 3300 Farnsworth st., dig up trees and move to the planting location at 3371 E Warren.

Ocelot Print Shop will provide a live screen printing experience, so you can go home with a t-shirt to rep for clean air and trees!

As part of their course Environmental and Social Justice: A Place-Based Perspective, HNRS 4302 students at Western Michigan University are hosting a virtual screening of Unbreathable: The Fight for Healthy Air. This powerful film delves into the history of the Clean Air Act and the ongoing fight for air quality in communities affected by environmental injustice.  The screening, followed by a discussion, offers a timely opportunity to engage with the continued challenges in achieving healthy air for all. This virtual event is free and open to the public.

Wayne County Health, Human, and Veteran Services [HHVS] will be distributing mobile air quality monitors and digital inhalers for eligible Wayne County residents. At this distribution event, community health partners will be tabling to share more about their public health and air quality programs.

Pollution to Solutions Bike Tour

Go for a bike ride with us to tour some of the pollution our community struggles with as well as community groups that are addressing air quality and promoting environmental justice. Exact route tbd, but we will likely have 3-4 stops and bike around 7-8 miles total. There will be a support van following the group to help with traffic management and provide respite if needed. We will provide snacks and water for the ride. We will have 10 portable air monitors to ride with and engage riders along the way around what their monitors are picking up.
